In today's political arena, people don't think about the consequences of hate filled speech. While, yes, we do have the right to free speech in this part of the world; this doesn't mean that we should just spew out what's on the tip of our tongue without first thinking about what it is that we're saying.
Words Have Power
Whatever your political, philosophical, or personal agenda may be, you have to realize that words have power. When you put ideas into other people's minds, you have to assume some kind of responsibility for giving them those ideas.
Rethink
We live in a world where actions speak louder than words and, maybe as a society we should rethink the way we do things.
Consequences For What We Say
No longer can we sit back and think that there are no consequences for what we say. We were taught to believe that there are consequences for what we do, but not for what we say. Maybe, we should think about, the consequences, of what we say and how it affects others. In this day and age, through Facebook and other forms of social media, people are communicating more about themselves and their lives than ever before.
Sticks And Stones
When I grew up, we used to say," sticks and stones may break my bones, but, words will never hurt me. This way of thinking needs to be rethought because, the truth is, while sticks and stones may break my bones, words have the power to scar me for life and have me in therapy forever. While my therapist thanks you, my bank account, doesn't.
Consequences
While there are consequences for what we do, there are also consequences to what we say, and this includes, hate filled speech publication.
Hate Filled Speech
Hate filled speech is not normal, and like anything else in life, there are consequences to hate filled speech. And, that's a fact. Lets thread with caution and decency. God bless Nigeria!
